Fieldwork in Brașov County – September 2025
We collected both Formica pratensis and Formica polyctena in Brașov County. The latter species was recorded near Poiana Brașov in a typcal mountain meadow and spruce forest edge. Some of the nest were impressive in terms of size. Near Brașov city in an hilly area, in an open habitat with shrubs and an abandonde orchard we collecteed samples of Formica pratensis. More than 20 ant nest were recored on the site.






Fieldwork in Maramureș County – August 2025
In the northern part of the country, we investigated several nests of Formica polyctena from two sites. In both cases, the typical habitat was the forest edge of spruce forest. The ant nest here had impresive size.



Fieldwork in Suceava County – August 2025
In the northern part of the County we recored many nests of Formica polyctena in a mixed forest of Quercus petraea, Picea abies, Abies alba, Carpinus betulus, Tilia cordata and other decidous species. The overall forest has more then 300 ant nests. In addition, we collected data from several ant nest of F. polyctena from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, in a hbaitat of both open meadow and spruce forest edge.



Fieldwork in Hunedoara County – August 2025
We investigated ant nests from Retezat Mountains, near Câmpu lui Neag. We recored almost 10 Formica polyctena nest in mixture of open habitat and forest edge (a mix of coniferous and decidous forest) with low cattle grazing.


Fieldwork in Brașov County – July 2025
We inspected ant nests in Criț village and several Formica pratensis nest were identified. We also recorded one abandoned nest.




Fieldwork in Mureș County – July 2025
We carried out field campaign in several localities and only Formica pratensis nest were found in meadows in hilly areas. The abundance was low.




Fieldwork in Buzău County – June 2025
We carried out Formica pratensis nest monitoring near the Vulcanii Noroioși Reserve, near Berca, Buzău. The plant species richness was high and there were several ant nest occurring in the open vegetation of the site.



Fieldwork in Argeș County – June 2025
Near Leordeni, we found a large open habitat near a deciduous forest edge. Despite the lower plant species richness, sustained several Formica pratensis ant nests in a mosaic of herbaceous and shrubs habitats.


Fieldwork in Dolj County – June 2025
In two locations in Dolj County, we sampled Formica pratensis nests in typical open habitats. Moreover, in one of the sites, Perișor locality, we recorded more than 25 F. pratensis on a low surface (less than 2 ha), where the meadow is grazed by sheep.






Fieldwork in Vâlcea County – June 2025
We recorded Formica pratensis ant nests in two locations: near Horeze and near Costesti. In both cases the typical landscape consisted of open habitat, meadow with moderate grazing and tree species and shrubs were also occurred in the landscape.
